We purchased this clothes line to go in our laundry room. It's ideal for a small space where you don't want to have a folding drying rack to store etc. It will hold almost anything you can wash as long as you do a good job of securing it to the wall. I made my life easier by mounting the unit and the hooks on some 3/4" boards. Then I was able to secure the boards to the wall with a few extra fasteners and then mount the unit & hooks to the boards. This way I've got more holding power and a better looking finished product in my mind. The only thing I don't like about this unit is that it will only really mount on the wall one way. If you look at the product picture you can see a knob on the unit. That knob really needs to be on the left side of the unit as you face it. I needed to install mine the other way for our particular set-up and it wasn't an easy task. I've got it working, but it's not nearly as nice as it would have been stock, so I don't recommend that approach to anyone else. Nice product for the money and we are getting lots of use out of it.

I bought this to supplement my wooden clothes drying rack. I hang dry almost all of my clothes and needed more hanging room.When installing this you have to make sure that both ends of it are SECURED to the wall. If either is not secured, the clothes will weigh it down and tear it from the wall. I was installing in a basement laundry room with drywall and studs on one side and poured cement on the other. I was able to screw into the studs on the drywall side, but on the cement side I used concrete anchors and construction adhesive (that's some strong stuff!) to mount a wood board to which I screwed the included hooks into. It all took about 20 minutes - not including the set time for the adhesive.The unit is retractable which is good. There are 5 lines attached to the bar, you pull the bar out and attach it to the hooks mounted on the opposite wall. Then there is a knob that you turn to lock the line taught. Overall, this unit is ok. I do not hang wet jean or heavy pants or sweaters on it because it just doesn't seem strong enough to me. I do use it for underclothes, socks, tee shirts, tank tops and such and it works great. Sheets would probably work fine too.Note that I only have mine stretching a distance of about 4 feet, but there is more line than that. So I don't know how clothes would hang if you have it pulled out the maximum distance.I would buy again if I needed more space to hang light clothes.

I would rate the unit 5 stars but for a couple of minor issues: the instructions are in German only; an English version would be nice for us monolingual Americans. The plastic anchors are totally inadequate for mounting the unit to drywall. I mounted one side of the cord unit and one the hooks into studs and used drywall anchors (the kind that expand on the back when you screw them down)for the other sides. I plan to replace that installation with hardwood strips attached to two wall studs on both mounting walls, then attach the hooks and line unit to the hardwood for an even stronger mount. Another minor complaint: phillips head or hex head screws would make mounting much easier than the slotted screws supplied. That said, I installed the unit in less than thirty minutes and am please with the result.
